Armed with a full agenda, the 2025 AGM was our most comprehensive to date - here’s your quick run down.
Petition update:
Film screening:
Working with investigative film-maker Page75Productions, CAST have organised one of only three showings in the North East of their docu-film The Line We Crossed. On 28th June, the film exposing the effect of the laws being passed which impact the democratic rights of us all, will be shown at Sea Change Café on Ocean Road.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Liz Smith (producer) and Trudi Warner (subject of the film). There’ll be more information on booking, times and special guests coming soon - keep an eye on our webpage in the meantime.

Community in Action event: Jarrow
Our Planning Group have organised a networking event to link local groups to local people!
With the theme of community wellbeing, we’re thrilled to be joined by groups covering all aspects of wellbeing - mental/physical health, financial/employment wellbeing, environmental welfare and of course, CAST and the petition to improve the borough’s democratic health!
And with live music from ITS and broadcasting from Affinity Radio, we hope it’ll be the start of a regular event we can take around the borough!
FREE family fundays are back!!
Our free family fundays return this summer for their fifth year!
In mid-March, our amazing Planning Group found out that they’d secured £10,715 to make the programme is bigger than ever!
Here’s your line up of venues (all 1-4pm) and as always, they’re packed with FREE stuff!
*Unfortunately due to the space available at The Barnes Institute we can’t squeeze the inflatable or popcorn/slushie machines in...but never fear, there’ll still be plenty of entertainment plus treat bags so no-one gets left out!
We’ve also organised some entertainment as part of the Ocean Road Mela in South Shields on Sunday 10 August @ Ocean Road CA so why not pop down and join in!
CAST financial report:
We’re in good financial and membership shape!
With over 100 members and £3000 in the bank, we’ve got the resources to carry on our current projects and cover our general annual expenses, so it’s onwards and upwards!
Big Rivers Makers Market:
With CAST support, the BRRM has developed and is now a Community Interest Company (CIC) in its own right! So, while we must say ciao to Dave and Jools, we’ll follow them on Facebook and visit their fantastic craft markets!
Work experience!
We’re hosting a media student from South Tyneside College to help us with our output! With vox pops, interviews and more planned, stay tuned!
The boring stuff!
No change in the executive positions.
